What’s involved
Made for outdoor living
Half inside, half outside. An alfresco slab needs a finish that copes with both.
The alfresco is where a lot of Queensland living actually happens: the barbecue, the kids, the dog, pot plants and wet feet from the pool. Plain concrete stains, dusts and shows every spill. An epoxy flake finish gives you a seamless surface that hoses down and looks like it belongs to the house.
Because an alfresco is open to the weather, it sees sun and rain that an internal floor never does. External areas get systems that are UV stable to handle the Queensland climate, laid over concrete that has been diamond ground and repaired first.
Choosing a flake
Pale greys keep an outdoor area light and bright, while darker blends hide dirt and leaf litter. The alfresco in the slider below went from bare concrete beside a shed to a pale grey flake. Browse the Ultra Flake and Hyper Flake charts, or try colours on a photo of your own patio with the free colour visualiser.
Falls and drainage
A coating follows the shape of the slab, so existing falls and drainage stay as they are. If water already pools somewhere, mention it with your photos so it can be looked at before coating.
Wet areas
Slip resistant options are available for outdoor areas that get wet, including the step down to the yard or the path to the pool.

Can you epoxy coat an outdoor patio?
Yes. Outdoor patios and alfresco areas are coated with a flake system and a UV stable topcoat, over concrete that has been diamond ground and repaired.
Will an epoxy patio yellow or fade in the sun?
Some epoxies discolour when left exposed to UV, which is why external areas get a UV stable topcoat. It’s there to protect the colour and finish from Queensland sun.
Is an epoxy alfresco slippery when wet?
Smooth surfaces get slicker when they’re wet, so slip resistant options are available for outdoor areas that see water, like near the pool or at the edge of the roofline.
Can you coat a patio that has cracks?
Hairline cracks and chips are repaired during prep. Cracks caused by ongoing slab movement can come back through any coating, which is worth knowing before you start.
How much does it cost to coat a patio or alfresco?
It depends on the area, the condition of the slab and the finish options you choose, so every patio is quoted individually, and quotes are free. Send through a few photos and rough measurements and we can come back with a price.
