What’s involved
Resurface it, don’t rip it out
If the slab underneath is sound, coating a driveway is a far smaller job than replacing it.
A tired driveway is the first thing people see when they pull up, and replacing concrete is a big, noisy, expensive job. The driveway in the slider below was worn, stained and just tired. Rather than tear it up, it was diamond ground and coated with a Hyper Flake system.
Outside is harder on a coating than inside. A driveway sits in full Queensland sun, gets hammered by storms and carries every car that turns in. That’s why external work gets a UV stable topcoat, and why the prep matters so much: a coating is only as good as what’s under it.
Exposed aggregate driveways
Exposed aggregate can be coated too. It’s ground back to a flat, sound surface for the system to bond to, and the faded, patchy look of old aggregate is covered with a consistent flake finish.
Paths and walkways
Front paths, side passages and the walk from the carport to the door can be coated in the same flake as the driveway, so all the outdoor concrete reads as one finish instead of a patchwork.
Slopes and wet weather
Driveways get wet, and plenty of them have a slope. Slip resistant options are available for the topcoat, and they’re worth talking through if your driveway is steep or stays damp.
The process
How a driveway job runs
Quote
Send photos and rough measurements. Mention any slope, cracking or areas that hold water.
Clean & grind
The surface is cleaned and diamond ground back to sound concrete.
Repair
Cracks and damaged edges are repaired so the coating has a solid base.
Flake system
The epoxy base and flake go down, followed by a UV stable topcoat.
Cure
Cars stay off until the coating has fully cured.

Can you coat an exposed aggregate driveway?
Yes. Exposed aggregate is diamond ground back to create a flat, sound surface, then coated with the flake system and a UV stable topcoat.
How much does it cost to coat a driveway?
It depends on the area, the condition of the concrete, how much repair it needs and the slope, so every driveway is quoted individually, and quotes are free. Send through a few photos and rough measurements and we can come back with a price.
Will a coated driveway handle cars and hot sun?
That’s what the system is for. It’s laid over diamond ground concrete to take vehicle weight, and external jobs get a UV stable topcoat to handle Queensland sun. Keep cars off until it has fully cured.
Can you coat my paths to match the driveway?
Yes. Paths and walkways can be done in the same flake blend so the driveway and paths match. Include them in your photos and measurements when you ask for a quote.
Does a coated driveway get slippery when it rains?
Any smooth surface gets slicker when wet, which is why slip resistant options are available for the topcoat. They’re a good idea on sloping driveways.
